So you just got yourself a new teeth whitening kit led from the drugstore, but the stuff that’s supposed to come out of it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. That’s okay, we’ve got you covered. Here are some easy fixes for the most common problems with a teeth whitening kit.
The Mixture is too thick
If your toothpaste is coming out very stiff and viscous, it’s likely that your tube has gone bad or dried up (especially if it was left uncapped). A quick fix for this problem is to pour half of the paste into a tiny pot and microwave it for 10-15 seconds until it becomes malleable again.
Dried Up Toothpaste
Sometimes the problem is that the toothpaste has dried up and become too stiff. To fix this, open your tube and stir up the paste with the brush head (don’t scrape it against the side of the tube). If you’re still having trouble, try heating it in a microwavable container for 10-15 seconds and stirring it again to loosen it up.
The Brush Head is Dirty
If your teeth whitening kit led are getting stuck to the brush head, it’s likely that you’re using the wrong size of brush. In order to get the right brush size, you can simply take the brush head out and gently dip it in the toothpaste for about 30 seconds before putting it back into the tube.
The Toothpaste is Too Waxy
If your toothpaste is too waxy, try using an equal amount of gel to powder toothpaste.
The Toothbrush is Narrow or the Brush Head is Too Short
If you’re brush head isn’t long enough to reach all of your teeth, try purchasing a longer brush head for your kit. If it’s about a half inch too short and still won’t reach everything, simply trim off the excess with a pair of scissors or a knife.
The Brush Head is Too Long
If your brush head is too long, you can simply trim it down. Simply press the handle of your toothbrush into a pair of scissors or a knife to cut it down to the desired length. An alternative way to use this method would be to twist and flatten the tip of the brush head with pliers and tape/wrap it back into place with some electrical tape.
Toothpaste Doesn’t Apply Properly
If your toothpaste isn’t sticking to your teeth, you’re probably using the wrong size of brush or the tube is too narrow. The teeth whitening kit led should be about an inch in diameter and the top of the tube should only be about a half inch below your lips. If you still can’t get it to apply properly, try rubbing it on with your fingers for a minute before applying it to your teeth.
It’s making you gag!
If your toothpaste is giving you a bad gag reflex, try breathing through your mouth while applying it to your teeth. You can also try mixing it with sugar water instead of water or skip brushing your teeth for a couple of days. Doing so will desensitize your taste buds and make the toothpaste more bearable.
The Toothpaste is Staining Your Teeth
If the toothpaste is staining your teeth, you’re probably brushing it on too aggressively or you’re brushing on it dry. For this reason, try wetting your brush with some water before brushing and don’t press so hard while brushing.
My brush head fell off!
If your brush head falls off, make sure it’s in the right size before trying to glue it back on. The brush head should only be about a half inch below your lips. For this reason, you may need to trim down the length of the brush handle with a knife or scissors. Simply use a pair of pliers and press it against the blade of a scissors to bend it outwards and make it fit more comfortably in your hand. The extra space can then be wrapped with electrical tape to make sure it stays in place.
If you’re still having a problem, check out your toothbrush and make sure the top of the tube is no lower than a half inch below your lips. If your brush head is too long and there isn’t enough space for it to fit, try trimming down the handle of the brush by about a half inch with a knife or scissors before putting it back into place.
Try brushing your teeth with a toothbrush head fit for your age. If you’re having trouble with the brush not fitting, simply trim it down to size with a pair of scissors or a knife.
If you’re using an electric toothbrush for the first time, try using one that’s more aggressive than those recommended for kids. For example, if you normally use an X-Acto knife and then use a toothpaste tube on the standard handle, try putting that tube on the electric toothbrush handle instead.
