what is a roku device, and how does it work?
The Roku device is a small box that connects to your TV. Content is streamed via wifi from services provided by Roku, such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, HBO GO and more. The Roku box can be connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet or WiFi.
A form of remote control is included that communicates with the box using IR (infrared) signals. Some models also have a USB port for you to plug in an optional wireless keyboard, should you not like the supplied standard remote. It does not use Bluetooth (you would need to connect via Blueooth). The available compatible keyboards are designed for easier entering of usernames and passwords on devices such as PS3s and Xboxes; they are not full-sized keyboards.
Roku has different models: Roku LT, Roku HD (3000), Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD (2050), Roku 2 XS (3000X), Roku 3 (4200).
The Roku LT is a small box with composite video output, standard definition only. It does not have an HDMI port. This model is no longer manufactured; it was available for sale until October 2014. The current Roku 1 (2720) is the same as the old Roku LT except the name has changed and one hdmi input has been added.
The new Roku 3 (4200) is similar to the older “XD” models but comes with headphones that plug into the remote control; it has voice search capability; it also supports 1080p output (the XD models do not). The new Streaming Stick (3500) plugs directly into your TV’s HDMI port, like a USB flash drive or external hard drive. You can find out more about Rooku device on Nomi Blogger
The Roku 2 HD Streaming Media Player has several features: It’s compatible with high definition television (HDTV), delivers up to 1080p and is easy to setup and use. The box itself is small enough that it does not block other people or objects from the TV’s line of sight, making it perfect for those with limited space. The remote control uses a wireless connection as well as infrared (IR) technology like your TV remote, giving you convenience and portability. This roku device supports Roku Search across multiple channels, includes an enhanced remote control and has up to 1080p HD video output resolution so images feature rich detail and clarity.
How to use Roku ?
To use a Roku device, simply connect the box to your TV and plug it in. Plug the included USB cable into a power adapter and then into the Roku player. Next, connect the other end of the USB cable into a computer or directly into a wall outlet using an AC/DC adapter. Once you have plugged everything in, turn on your television and follow the directions to complete setup. In most cases, this is as easy as entering your wifi information so that you can begin watching movies or listening to music from channels such as Netflix, Hulu Plus and Pandora.
Roku provides the simplest way to stream entertainment to your TV. On your terms. All you have to do is plug it into your TV, connect it to the Internet, sit back and enjoy.
The Roku Streaming Stick is compatible with all MHL-enabled Android phones and tablets. Connect your phone or tablet to the Roku Streaming Stick by simply plugging in the USB end of the stick into your phone or tablet and connecting the HDMI end of the stick into your TV. Turn on your TV, connect to a wireless network, then follow screen prompts for pairing and activating streaming channels. Streaming apps include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, Showtime Anytime, HBO Go/Now, YouTube and more.
What sets this device apart from standard Roku models is that it’s powered by MHL technology which allows for power charging while connected to an HDTV so you can watch movies without draining your battery. Unlike other streaming sticks on the market, this Roku Streaming Stick is fully functional with all MHL-enabled smartphones and tablets. It supports up to 1080P video resolution so movies look great on your TV screen!
